7th Grade bandThe 7th Grade Concert Band is the intermediate band at Northwestern Middle School. This band combines with the 8th grade band to compete on the local and national levels. This band plays for pep rallies, concerts throughout the year, district festival, and national competitions.

NMS Jazz Band
The NMS Jazz Band is comprised of select 8th grade students. Students in the NMS Jazz Band perform at school concerts, LAJE Jazz Festival at Southeastern LA University, and the Loyola Jazz Festival in New Orleans.
About the Director
Ms. Emma Haley is in her ninth year as a middle school band director and her first year as Band Director at NMS. Before moving to Louisiana, Ms. Haley was a middle school band director in Florida for eight years. Most recently, she served as the Band Director at Swift Creek Middle School in Tallahassee, FL from 2018-2023.
Prior to her appointment at Swift Creek, Ms. Haley served as the Band Director at Hidden Oaks Middle School (Palm City, FL) from 2015-2018.
Ms. Haley is a two-time graduate of Florida State University with a master's degree in Music Education (MME-2023) and a bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education (BME-2015), magna cum laude.
Outside of band responsibilities, Ms. Haley is an active saxophonist and annually has been an instructor and performer at the Metro Saxophone Symposium (Atlanta, GA) and the Treasure Coast Summer Band Camp (Jensen Beach, FL).
Ms. Haley is an active Solo & Ensemble judge in the state of Florida and former member of the FBA Sight Reading Committee, FBA, and FMEA. She holds professional memberships in LMEA and NAfME.
